1. Introduction
The Aziz computer facility at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is managed and overseen by the High Performance Computing Center. The project was launched in 2015 to provide the necessary computing resources for researchers, students, and academic staff for their research and graduate studies. Additionally, the High Performance Computing Center offers a wide range of training, consulting, and research activities for all public and private institutions and educational organizations in Saudi Arabia related to high-performance computing, data analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning, natural language processing, and parallel computing. Recently, the center has been upgraded to a Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing, allowing for research and collaborative agreements with other research centers and public and private sectors.
2. Creating a New Account
2.1 Faculty Members and Researchers at King Abdulaziz University
Applicants must fill out the online application form at the following link: Application Form
Applicants must prepare the following information and documents:
- Email address of the Dean of the Faculty, Head of the Department, or Director of the Research Center.
- A recent letter from the Anjiz HR system at King Abdulaziz University.
- A one-page document describing your research problem and how you will benefit from the Aziz supercomputer.
2.2 King Abdulaziz University Students
Applicants must fill out the online application form at the following link: Application Form
Applicants must prepare the following information and documents:
- Email address of the academic supervisor.
- A recent registration letter from the ODUS system at King Abdulaziz University.
- A one-page document describing your research problem and how you will benefit from the Aziz supercomputer.
2.3 External Research Collaborators
The academic investigator (PI) from King Abdulaziz University (KAU) can request access to the Aziz supercomputer for their research team. First, they must submit a new application for each member to create a new account for access to the Aziz supercomputer according to the following procedures:
- Each member must download the application form, complete all required information, and sign it.
- The application form must be approved and stamped by the Dean of the Faculty of the academic investigator at King Abdulaziz University (in the Director or Head of Department's approval section).
- Prepare a one-page document describing the joint research project and the tasks to be performed on the Aziz supercomputer.
- In the project document, the academic investigator at King Abdulaziz University must clearly state the project duration, project funding, expected results, and targeted deliverables. This document must also be signed by the academic investigator at King Abdulaziz University and approved and stamped by the Dean of the Faculty of the investigator.
The project investigator at King Abdulaziz University must send these documents along with a copy of the official university ID card for each member and a copy of their national/residence ID card, and send the hard copies as an official request addressed to the Director of the Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing.
2.4 Paid External Users
The applicant should contact us via email at hpc@kau.edu.sa
and a support team member will arrange a call with the applicant to discuss the applicant's requirements and available pricing plans.
2.5 Application Process
The application will be reviewed to verify supporting documents. Once approved by the Director of the Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing, the support team will create the new account and send login credentials and a user guide to the user for system access.
3. User Account Monitoring
When access is granted to users on the Aziz supercomputer, users are informed not to share their account data with anyone else. The provided resources should only be used by the person who was granted this account. User behavior on the system is monitored 24/7, and any misuse of resources will result in automatic suspension from the system for one month. If this behavior recurs, the user's account will be suspended for at least one year.
The account is valid for one academic year and can be renewed based on the following categories:
- Faculty and Researchers at King Abdulaziz University
At the end of each year, we request these users to provide a list of research publications conducted on the Aziz supercomputer to include in the annual report of the Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing. Accounts of inactive users or those who have left King Abdulaziz University for a year are suspended and permanently deleted if the user does not reappear.
- Students of King Abdulaziz University
At the beginning of each academic year, students must provide a recent registration letter from the ODUS system at King Abdulaziz University confirming that they are still enrolled in their academic program. Additionally, they must provide a list of research publications conducted on the Aziz supercomputer to include in the annual report of the Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing. Accounts of inactive users or those who have left King Abdulaziz University for a year are suspended and permanently deleted if the user does not reappear.
- External Research Collaborators
Accounts for external research collaborators are valid for 6 months and can be extended based on the request of the academic investigator at King Abdulaziz University and the clarifications provided. At the beginning of each month, the academic investigator at King Abdulaziz University must prepare and submit a monthly report on the tasks performed by their research team and ensure that all these tasks are related to their joint research project.

Paid Accounts
According to the agreement with the user, the account is valid for one month and is automatically renewed. The Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing reserves the full right to suspend/disable a user account in case of any violation of the terms of use and conditions, or if the user delays payment for more than one month. Users can request an upgrade or change in their subscription plans, suspend their account for a certain period, or unsubscribe from the offered services at any time by sending an official request from their official email to the Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing for approval.
